Fifth Water Hot Springs

An Adventure Closeby

We are always looking for new adventures close to home. Living out in Utah for a couple of years, it kinda feels like we are on a permanent vacation with so many beautiful national parks, mountains, and outdoor adventures to be had. One of our favorite hikes we’ve found nearby is Fifth Water Hot Springs.

The Hike

Arriving at these hot springs does take some work, though! There’s a roughly 2.3-mile hike each way. The trek is through the Uinta national forest and follows the river the whole way. It is a pretty hike and is moderate in difficulty. The closer you get, you begin to smell some rotten eggs. I take the aroma as a sign that I’m about to be soaking in a hot spring paradise. 😉

The Hot Springs

Once you are there, you can’t miss the blue-green pools of heat and relaxation. There is a large waterfall with hot springs surrounding it. Don’t be fooled, though, the waterfall does not feel quite like the hot springs 😉 I’ve tried to get in it several times and it always ends in pins and needles and a whole lot of FREEZING. Luckily, the hot springs are warmer. The closer you are to the waterfall, the hotter the hot springs are. We found a sweet spot going to the springs further back from the waterfall. Often, there are other people in the springs also, but hikers are friendly. 🙂 We’ve had some entertaining conversations with other hikers in this spring.

The busy pools right there are the best ones! They are popular for a reason

Pro Tip: If you want your own pool to yourself, lose the bathing suit… and go in your birthday suit instead. 😉 Kidding, but not kidding, I’ve seen way more than desired of a couple guys who took that approach. It worked! They had the entire pool to themselves. But you might scar some poor people trying to enjoy themselves without unnecessary nudity.

A Dog-Friendly Hike

Also, bring your favorite furry friends! This hike is super dog-friendly. Which is fantastic because so many trails aren’t! You are sure to see a few others during your time at the hot springs.

All-Around A Great Hike

This hike is the perfect distance (about an hour each way), isn’t too easy or difficult, and has an unforgettable ending that makes the hour trek well worth it. Try it out and let us know what you think in the comments!
